The Sneeze (rhyming picture book)

“The Sneeze” is a poem that follows a young narrator as he explores a cave. When the dust stirred up by his boots causes him to sneeze, the boy is distraught that the cave sneezes back. Delving into the “fear of the unknown” theme, the poem’s rhythm mimics the narrator’s emotions, from pleasant, to panicked, to self-calming. It leaves the reader on a peppy, informational ending where the narrator’s father catches up and humorously explains the concept of an echo.
